In order to promote Plasma Science & technology amoungst the community, PSSI, in conjunction with various sponsors have instituted various awards and fellowships for members working in the area of Plasma Science & Technology. Some of the awards/fellowships are listed below. More such schemes are in the offing and will be introduced in the coming years.
The awards are normallty presented every year during the annual Plasma Science Symposium.
(1) The Buti Foundation Awards
Awards for Young Scientists
To encourage young scientists, ‘Buti Young Scientist Award' has been instituted by Buti Foundation. The award consists of a Certificate of Merit and a cash prize of Rs.5000. On behalf of Buti Foundation, Plasma Science Society of India (PSSI) at its Annual National Conference will present this award to the selected young researcher for the best presentation.
The first award was given at PLASMA 2004 (PSSI Conference) held at Bundelkhand University at Jhansi in December 2004. Looking at the great enthusiasm of the young participants for competing for this award, President, Buti Foundation has decided to have TWO such awards from 2005 onwards.
One award will be exclusively for applicants from Universities and Colleges and the second one will be open to all young scientists. This has been done keeping in mind that the scientists at Universities and Colleges do not have facilities comparable to the ones at Research Institutes. However there will be no compromise on the quality of the presentation. In case, the presentations are not to the mark, no award will be given that year.

Who can apply ?
Buti Foundation Young Scientist Award is open to Graduate students working for their Ph.D.and to fresh Ph.D.s with less than 2 years post-doctoral experience. Maximum age limit for competing for this award is 35 years. This award of Rs. 5000 is for the best presentation with really good contents to be presented at the annual PSSI meeting .
The application must be sent to the Convenor of that particular year's PLASMA conference along with manuscript of the work to be presented at the conference. Please look for the dead-lines for the application and for submission of MS in the PSSI Newsletter as well as in the Conference Announcement.

(2) PSSI-Poster Awards
From 2006, two awards for posters presented at the Plasma Science & Technology Symposium have been initiated. The awards carry a cash component of Rs. 5000/- each and a certificate of merit.
The awards for the year 2006 were sponsonred by The Malviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, the hosts for Plasma-2006.
There is NO age limit for this award.
One award is open for all the researchers and the other award has been earmarked for the posters from Universities/Colleges.

(3) Z. H. Sholapurwala Awards For Fusion Research
Z. H. SHOLAPURWALA AWARDS FOR FUSION RESEARCH ; Mr. Z. H. Sholapurwala, Managing Director of Zeonics Systech D & A Engg. (P) Ltd., Bangalore. a large Defence & Atomic Engg. equipment supplier based in Bangalore has initiated two awards for Poster presentation for two outstanding works on engineering aspect of Fusion science & Technology done in India.
The Idea of the award is to kindle young generation to pick up work in Fusion Research which will be very useful in future. The first & second prizes for the award will carry Certificate of merit & a prize of Rs. 4,000/- & Rs. 2,000/- respectively. The awards will be given every year, beginning from year 2007. Details will be announced in the annual Plasma conference announcement.
There is NO age limit for the award. It is open for participants (Only Indian nationals) from all Institutions / Universities situated in India.
